Sir Albert, Amsterdam

23 July 2015

Words: Kaye Martindale / Image: Geoff Brokate

The intriguing Sir Albert Hotel in Amsterdam’s hip, multicultural de Pipj neighbourhood has taken the design hotel concept into new territory. Hoteliers Liran Wizman and Bram van der Hoek came up with the idea of Sir Albert: someone who could personify the qualities of old-fashioned sophistication, along with the modern approaches to service and luxury.

From the moment you walk into the hotel, you’re welcomed like old friends at what is referred to as Sir Albert’s private residence. An old-world study with a modern chic twist invites visitors to lounge by the fire or peruse the well-stocked library. During the informal check-in you’re offered a glass of prosecco, before being whisked to your room by an amiable member of staff.

The rooms combine cool contemporary styling with dashes of opulence, perfect for those who see themselves – as Sir Albert would say – as modern aristocrats.
