DUBAI, U.A.E., 2nd March 2013: Over 50 children gathered at 7he Sevens yesterday afternoon to take part in a dedicated coaching session that taught them how to play cricket like a pro! Leading the session were members of The Lord’s Taverners, a team of cricket greats dedicated to giving disadvantaged children a sporting chance.
Children aged between six and 12 from across the UAE, had the opportunity to learn how to bat like Mike Gatting and bowl like Martyn Ball. These cricket pros, along with others, took to 7he Sevens grounds to run coaching activities with a number of International Cricket Council (ICC) Elite Cricket Academy coaches. Coaching activities included demonstrations and drills focusing on important skills, while the stars gave pointers to the young cricketers aimed at helping them to improve their game.
The session was held in the innings break of the first day of play of a two-match series running between The Lord’s Taverners and Fly Emirates XI, a series which has been running for 10 years. Yesterday’s match saw The Lord’s Taverners beat Fly Emirates XI by 219 runs to 88, with Scott Styris recording 110 runs alone for The Lord’s Taverners.
