About Boston

Boston’s role in American history is celebrated throughout the city in tours, monuments and museums, while its academic contributions and sporting accomplishments are also a source of ‘Celtic’ pride. Boston life is synonymous with the sea from its scenic harbour to world famous clam chowder and sprawling national parks. Its small and safe neighbourhood coupled with an efficient public transport system has earned Boston the soubriquet, the Walking City.

Attractions & shopping

One of the most well-known streets in Boston is the upscale Newbury Street. Explore global fashion brands and specialist boutiques, enjoy local cuisine at its restaurants and cafés, or take in works of art at local galleries. Otherwise, picturesque period architecture lining the street makes for a pleasant afternoon stroll.

Discover the fresh produce, souvenirs and artwork to be found at the bustling Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Made up of Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, North Market and South Market, it’s been considered one of Boston’s central meeting spots for hundreds of years. Indulge in a range of cuisine at the Quincy Market Colonnade, visit Cheers – an authentic replica bar based on a popular sitcom, or watch the antics of the local street performers.

Delve into history on The Freedom Trail, a historical tour that takes you to 16 sites significant to America’s history, including meeting houses, monuments and the country’s oldest public park, Boston Common. Along with the Public Garden, the Common is the city’s main park and is both the starting point of the Freedom Trail and part of the ’Emerald Necklace’ – a network of parks that stretch across the city.

Boston is a city passionate about sport and it shows in the success of its teams at the national level. Watch the Red Sox at Fenway Park and experience the great American pastime, baseball. Or visit TD Garden, home to the city’s world famous basketball team, The Celtics, and also Boston’s championship ice hockey team, The Bruins.

Boston Harbor is a vibrant centre of activity. The HarborWalk stretches through several waterfront communities and districts of the city providing varied experiences and views. You may prefer to walk, cycle or just watch people as they pass. Out in the harbour you could enjoy a leisurely cruise or go whale watching.

Boston also has a range of fascinating world-renowned scientific institutions and museums like the Museum of Science, The New England Aquarium and the Franklin Park Zoo.
