Airport newsA new terminal for low-cost carriers is being built to replace the existing, remote LCC facility. The project, which has been delayed, is currently due for completion in 2014.
Transfer between terminalsThe Aerotrain operates between the Main Terminal and the Satellite Building every 3–5 minutes.
Driving directionsThe North-South Central Link Expressway (E6) is the primary access road for the airport. From the city center, take the southbound Jalan Puchong-Petaling Jaya (B11) route to the westbound Damansara–Puchong Expressway (E11). Exit this main road at the interchange for the North-South Central Link Expressway (E6) and follow the expressway and its extension southwards to the airport. The trip from downtown Kuala Lumpur to the airport takes about one hour. Secondary access is via the eastern route, which links the Nilai interchange with the airport.
Car rentalCar rental operators Avis, Kasina Baru, Hertz, Pantas, Mayflower, Orix, and Insas are represented at the airport, with desks in the arrivals area.
Public transport and taxisBus: Express buses to Kuala Lumpur and local buses to Nilai KTM Komuter Station and Subang are available from the bus station on the ground floor of Block C, in the short-term parking lot.
Taxi: Taxis are available from outside the arrivals area. Passengers should buy a coupon at the taxi counters in the arrivals area and are advised not to use taxis offered by illegal operators.
Rail: KLIA Ekspres (tel: (03) 2267 8088; www.KLIAekspres.com) is the direct nonstop express rail service between the airport and KL City Air Terminal (KLCAT) at Kuala Lumpur's Central Station (travel time: 28 minutes; fare: RM35). KLIA Transit is another high-speed commuter train between the airport and KLCAT, but this one stops at several intermediate stations (travel time: 35 minutes; fare: RM35).
Car parkingThere are extensive parking facilities at the airport. Blocks A, B, C, and D, of the covered short-term parking lots are situated near the terminal; there is also an uncovered lot that is connected to the Main Terminal and the Sama Sama Hotel by a courtesy shuttle service.
Information and help desksThere are airport information counters in the Main Terminal, the Contact Pier, and the Satellite Building. Touchscreen information kiosks are situated throughout the airport. Tourist information, including details of accommodation, attractions, tours, and transportation, can be found at the Visitors Service Center (tel: (03) 8776 5651/5647) on the third floor of the main terminal, in the baggage claim area.
Airport FacilitiesMoney: There are banks, bureaux de change, and ATMs in the two main terminal buildings.
Communications: Wi-Fi Internet is available throughout the airport, free of charge. In addition, there are Internet kiosks in several locations. Public telephones can be found in both terminals. A post office is located in the departures area of the Main Terminal.
Food: There is a good selection of places to eat at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. In particular, the Satellite Building boasts a large choice, with cafés and restaurants spread among its various concourses.
Shopping: Visitors here can choose from a range of shops, including gift retailers, bookshops, fashion boutiques, and electronics shops. Duty-free shopping is available in the Satellite Building.
Luggage: Luggage lockers and trolleys are available for rent. For lost property (tel: (03) 8776 4312), travelers should contact the nearest information counter for further assistance. A baggage wrapping service also operates in the departures hall of the main building.
Other facilities: Facilities for parents with small children include nurseries, baby-changing facilities, and a children's play area. A 24-hour clinic is on hand to deal with medical inquiries, while pharmacies can assist with minor medical issues. There is a quiet/prayer room in the departures area of the Main Terminal; Muslim prayer rooms can be found in both main terminals. A fitness center with showers, sauna, and spa can be found in the Sama Sama Express Hotel (tel: (03) 8787 4848; www.samasamahotels.com) in the Satellite Building.
Conference and business facilitiesThe Plaza Premium Lounge (tel: (03) 8787 1766; www.plaza-ppl.com) is equipped with telephone, fax, Internet, and videoconferencing facilities, as well as postal and secretarial services. Other lounges have more basic facilities.The on-site Sama Sama Express Hotel (tel: (03) 8787 4848; www.samasamahotels.com) has a business center offering fax, photocopying, internet access, workstation rental, and secretarial services. Away from the terminals, the 5-star Sama Sama Hotel (tel: (03) 8787 3333; www.samasamahotels.com) houses a wide range of meeting and event facilities.
Disabled facilitiesFacilities for the disabled at Kuala Lumpur International Airport include ramps, elevators, wheelchair-accessible toilets, and adapted telephones. Reserved parking spaces are available on level 2 in the covered short-term parking lot. Passengers should advise their airline of their needs in advance to arrange terminal transportation, wheelchair provision, and assistance on and off the aircraft.
