Baggage

It is important to be aware of what you can and cannot take with you when you fly

Emirates customers traveling from Canada, North or South America can enjoy our generous checked baggage allowances.

From Canada, North America:

  • Two bags of up to 23kg (50lb) each in Economy Class
  • Two bags of up to 32kg (71lb) each in First Class and Business Class

From South America:

  • Two bags of up to 32kg (71lb) each in all classes

Piece concept

For tickets issued on or after 15th November 2014
Total dimensions (length + width + height) of each piece must not exceed 150cm (59 inches). Customers with individual items exceeding above dimensions up to 300cm (118 inches) will be charged an additional fee. Individual items with total dimensions exceeding 300cm (118 inches) cannot be transported as checked baggage, and must be sent as cargo or freight.

For customers with two pieces of luggage in all three classesthe total combined dimensions of both pieces should not exceed 300cm (118 inches).

For tickets issued prior to 15th November 2014
Total dimensions (length+ width+ height) of each piece must not exceed 158 cm (62 inches). For Economy Class customers with two pieces of luggage, the total combined dimensions of both pieces must not exceed 273 cm (107 inches). Customers with baggage exceeding these dimensions will be charged an additional fee.

Note: if your travel starts in the United States and the first carrier on your booking is not Emirates, that carrier’s baggage policy may apply for the whole itinerary, in accordance with US Department of Transportation regulations – learn more.

Baggage Policy for other destinations
For itineraries which do not include Canada, North or South America, customers can check in 30kg in Economy Class, 40kg in Business Class, and 50kg in First Class.

Weight concept

For tickets issued on or after 15th November 2014, Individual items with total dimensions exceeding 300cm (118 inches) cannot be transported as checked baggage, and must be sent as cargo or freight. There are no exceptions to this rule.

For tickets issued prior to 15th November 2014 Items beyond 300cm (118 inches) and up to 400cm (157 inches) in length may be accepted in exceptional cases. Please contact your local Emirates office for details at least seven working days prior to travelling with such items. Items exceeding this limit must be referred to Emirates SkyCargo. If the free baggage allowance is exceeded, normal excess charges apply.

Interline Baggage Policy

If your travel starts in the United States and the first carrier on your booking is not Emirates, different rules may apply – learn more.

Interline flights are flights that are on the same ticket as your Emirates flights, but operated by another airline and do not have an 'EK' flight number. These airlines may have a different baggage allowance to Emirates. Refer to the Interline Partner Baggage Allowance page for information on the allowance or charges for carry-on baggage and the first and second checked bag.
