|Airport news||In preparation for the FIFA World Cup tournament in 2010, major improvements were undertaken, including construction of a new terminal building linking the existing International and Domestic Terminals.|
|Transfer between terminals||The terminals are within a walking distance of each other. A shuttle bus service links the terminals and car parks.|
|Driving directions||Take the N2 highway eastbound and follow signs for Cape Town International Airport, which is off junction 16.|
|Car rental||Car hire companies at Cape Town International Airport include: Avis, Budget, Capital, Dollar, Europcar, Hertz, First, Sixt and Tempest. Car hire desks are located in front of the Transport Plaza and Central Terminal Building.|
|Public transport and taxis||Bus: My Citi Bus (tel: 0800 656 463; www.capetown.gov.za/en/MyCiti) directly links the city centre (Civic Centre on Herzog Boulevard) with Cape Town International Airport (journey time: 30 minutes; fare R53).
Taxi: are available from Cape Town International Airport to the city centre (journey time: 20 minutes) from the new Transport Plaza; Touch Down Taxis is the officially authorised airport taxi company, and travellers are advised to use this provider instead of unauthorised taxis.
|Car parking||Parking was improved in 2010 with the addition of two parking areas either side of the Transport Plaza. Parkade 1, to the north of the terminal building, contains 4,050 parking bays. Parkade 2, to the south, contains 1,749 parking bays. Shaded car parking, offering 1,600 spaces, is located either side of the centralised car rental area; this can be reached via the pedestrianised subway. Shuttles are available to transport travellers to the relevant terminal. For more information on parking, call: (021) 935 5708. Valet parking and lock-up garages are offered by Katanga Executive Parking Services (tel: (021) 936 3600; www.valet.co.za). These facilities must be booked in advance.|
|Information and help desks||Information desks are located in Arrivals in both the International and Domestic Terminals.|
|Airport Facilities||Money and communications: banks, bureaux de change, ATMs and a post office are available. Mobile telephone hire is available too. Wireless internet access is available both at the domestic and the internatinal terminals.
Eating and drinking: food and drink outlets can be found throughout the airport and include a restaurant, bar, sports café, coffee shop, juice bar, bar and grill, and sandwich shop.
Shopping: duty-free shopping, including a wine shop, is situated in International Departures (airside). Shops also include a pharmacy, clothing accessories shop, bookshop, sweet shop and gift shop. A VAT refund service is provided in International Departures.
Luggage: baggage storage facilities are available in the Domestic Arrivals (tel: (021) 936 2884) and International Departures (tel: (021) 936 2494). A porter service is available; porters are self-employed and rely on tips for their income. All lost and found articles are taken to the police station, where a register is held.
Other facilities: there is a medical clinic (tel: (021) 936 2277) in the Southern Office Block at the airport. Baby changing facilities can be found in all ladies’ toilets in the terminals.
|Conference and business facilities||The Airport Conference Centre (tel: (021) 935 3715) is located in the Southern Office Block near the Domestic Terminal, and offers venues for meetings and conferences, as well as catering. Fully equipped offices with a secretarial service are also available for short and long-term hire. Executive lounges are located in Domestic and International Departures. The Premier Lounge (tel: (021) 936 3014) is available to all passengers for a fee. The VIP lounge (tel: (021) 937 1233) can be found next to the north side of Domestic Departures.|
|Disabled facilities||The airport is fully accessible for disabled travellers, with lifts, ramps and adapted toilets. Wheelchairs can be supplied if required; passengers are advised to inform their airline of any special needs in advance. Dedicated parking facilities are also available for disabled travellers.|
