|Airport news||Following the merger of its previous two terminals into a single facility in May 2011, and the development of a new control tower, Birmingham Airport is now set to embark on improvements to its runway. A new hotel, the Travelodge, opened at the airport in 2011.|
|Driving directions||Birmingham Airport is located on the A45 Coventry road, close to junction 6 of the M42, to which there are direct connections from the M1, M5, M6 and M40. The M6 toll road provides a faster alternative to the M6. The airport is signposted from the motorways.|
|Car rental||Car hire companies represented at Birmingham Airport include: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and National. Desks for these operators are located in Arrivals and the hire car collection/drop-off point is situated within walking distance of the terminal.|
|Public transport and taxis||Bus: Network West Midlands buses (tel: (0871) 200 2233; www.networkwestmidlands.com) link Birmingham Airport to the surrounding district. Bus 900 connects the airport to Birmingham and Coventry; bus 966 runs to Solihull and Erdington; and bus 777 links Coleshill and Hams Hall to the airport. All buses stop outside the terminal. The journey time into central Birmingham is 45 minutes, and fares start at GBP 1.90. Tickets can be purchased at the Visitor Centre.
Coach: National Express (tel: 0871 781 8181; www.nationalexpress.co.uk) operates long-distance coach services to Birmingham and a number of other cities, as well as inter-airport coaches to London Luton, London Gatwick and London Stansted airports. Megabus (tel: 0871 266 3333; www.megabus.co.uk) also operates services to a number of destinations.
Taxi: Black Cabs (tel: (0121) 782 3744) taxis are available from a rank outside the terminal. The journey to Birmingham city centre takes upwards of 25 minutes and costs approximately GBP 25, according to traffic conditions.
Rail: the free Air-Rail monorail service links Birmingham Airport directly to nearby Birmingham International railway station in about two minutes. Frequent rail services (tel: (0845) 748 4950; www.nationalrail.co.uk) connect Birmingham International with New Street station in the city centre (journey time: 10 minutes; fare: GBP 3.30). Other train operators run services to Manchester, London, Bournemouth, Northampton, Coventry and destinations in Wales. Tickets can be purchased at Birmingham International railway station or at the Visitor Centre within the terminal building.
|Car parking||Short and medium-stay parking is available in three multi-story car parks close to the terminal. The two long-term car parks, adjacent to the main A45 road, are linked to the terminal by shuttle buses. Valet parking is also available. |Information and help desks||There are several information points located at various areas in the terminal complex, including desks providing airline information and general airport information (close to the check-in area and the main entrance). The Visitor Centre, next to Arrivals, offers advice on accommodation and attractions within the Birmingham area.|
|Airport Facilities||Money and communications: bureaux de change and ATMs are available in both terminals. Postal facilities are available in Terminal 1.
Eating and drinking: there is an extensive range of cafes, restaurants, bars and fast food outlets both airside and landside.
Shopping: there are numerous retail outlets at the airport, both landside and airside – duty free is available for passengers travelling outside the EU.
Luggage: a left-luggage facility (tel: 01217 677 987) is available on the first floor in Terminal 1.
Other facilities: there are 24-hour medical centres in both terminals and a prayer room.
|Conference and business facilities||Business booths are available in the departures lounge; free work stations are provided, with credit-card operated telephone, email, modem and fax facilities. Business Point (tel: (0121) 767 8063) provides meeting rooms accommodating between eight and 40 people, as well as fax and photocopying facilities. Meeting rooms are also available in the adjacent Novotel Birmingham Aiport hotel (tel: (0121) 782 7000; www.novotel.com). The National Exhibition Centre is close to Birmingham Airport, next to Birmingham International railway station.|
|Disabled facilities||Adapted toilets and lifts are located within the terminal building and wheelchairs are available on request. A minicom system is installed at the airport information desk and there is an induction loop system. Designated disabled parking spaces are available in all car parks.
